A Message from Our Principal

Hello Argyll Nation,

I am excited to begin my 25th year in education at Madison-Grant Jr./Sr. High School as your new principal! While I am new to Madison-Grant, I have spent time at Monroe Central Jr/Sr High School as principal and also Elwood Schools as a Principal and Assistant Principal, so I do know a bit about the area and the reputation of excellence at Madison-Grant. Prior to my experience as a Principal, I taught Chemistry and Biology at both Maconaquah and Hamilton Heights High Schools. I’ve spent this summer working hard to get acquainted with as many people as possible and preparing for a great 2023–2024 school year. I encourage you to reach out to me with any questions, as my door is always open. You can also follow me on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter (@MGJSHS_Prin). Don’t forget to also give our MGUSC page a follow!

We have exciting changes to announce in our office–Mr. Plovick will be serving our school as the Dean of Students and the High School Athletics Director. Mrs. Christine Myers will serve as the Attendance Dean. We will work with very defined roles in our office to better serve the needs of our students and school community. Our plan is to ensure Madison-Grant Jr./Sr. High School is the very best reflection of our community.

I am already impressed with everything happening in our school corporation, and in particular at our Jr/Sr High School. Our theme for the year will be “Embracing #WeAreMG.” Our team is creating an academic culture of excellence: SAT test scores are rising, students earning dual credits at extremely high levels–tenth in the entire state in earning Ivy Tech credits, along with career-ready certifications. We have opportunities for students in career & technical education both here at MG and through partnerships with local career centers and other partners. Our mission statement, “Inspire, cultivate, and promote excellence in every Argyll,” is truly being carried out for our students. In moving forward this year, we have chosen the theme “Embrace #WeAreMG.” We have so much to celebrate at Madison-Grant and to build upon in the coming year, so let’s embrace #WeAreMG.

We are working hard to prepare for the 2023–2024 school year. Here are some important items:

  1. Please register for the 2023–2024 school year prior to the start of school.
  2. Back to School Information: Please click on the link to see our flier with more information.
We will have both a Back to School Night from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. and seventh grade/new student orientation at 7:00 pm on the evening of Tuesday, August 1. A food truck will be serving dinner for those interested!
  3. First Day of School: Thursday, August 3, 2023, 8:05 a.m.–3:10 p.m. Students should go to their homeroom classrooms at the start of school.

We can hardly wait for the school year to begin and are excited to welcome back all of our students. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or feedback or phone (765) 536-0032. Go Argylls! #WeAreMG!

Sincerely,

David Retherford, Principal

Welcome

Welcome to Madison-Grant Junior/Senior High School, home of the Argylls! We are halfway between Fort Wayne and Indianapolis in Fairmount, Indiana, serving students in grades seven through twelve. Our academic programs range from college dual credit opportunities to career preparation courses. We utilize Google Chromebooks for our 1:1 technology initiative, which offers our students a technology-enriched curriculum that will prepare our students for the 21st century. We strive to ensure that every Argyll graduate is college and career ready so that they can prepare for the next phase of their lives.

We invite you to take some time to get to know our website and our excellent staff members. We encourage our school community and visitors to use the website for important academic and event information for MGJSHS, where we strive to inspire, challenge, and cultivate excellence in every Argyll.

Career Day 2023

On Friday, January 6, all MGJSHS students participated in Career Day. Seventh and eighth grade students participated in a Reality Store and Tech Trek competition. Freshmen went to three career sessions with local professionals, had a meeting with John Hinds Career Center, and joined the Reality Store in the afternoon. Sophomores went to four career sessions and learned about their personal style through the DISC assessment. Juniors and seniors went to four career sessions in the morning and then had three additional sessions focused on college and careers available in Grant and Madison counties in the afternoon. Over 30 local professionals joined us to share about their careers and experiences—many of our speakers were Madison-Grant alumni. It was an active day full of exciting learning opportunities!
